Let's Go!
A rally cry on the sports field and a command by Jesus from Matthew 28. What an incredible summer we experienced. Athletes, coaches, and many others were challenged to live out this command during the Michigan FCA Sports Camp.
Junior High and High School Athletes arrived for camp, and were assigned a Huddle leader (college athlete) based on the sport they were participating in for the week.
It didn't take long for them to learn the theme "Let's Go!" as we immediately sent them to meet their coaches for the week and start practice session number 1!
We were privileged to have Don Carey (Detroit Lions) be our chaplain for the week. He spoke each evening from our theme passage of Matthew 28:18-20.
1. Go Big! - God is Big, God is Powerful, God loves you and has a plan for you
2. Go Bold! - Jesus made a Bold sacrifice, You must make the Bold decision to surrender your life to Jesus, you can live a Bold life for Jesus
3. Go Build! - Build on God's Word, Build on prayer, Build your team of Christian community
4. Go Beyond! - Go Beyond your comfort, Go Beyond your borders, Go Beyond together
Each morning started off with a time of personal devotions and prayer before breakfast.
After breakfast, we would have a group devotional time. Each morning, Don Carey would share the theme for the day and one of our Huddle Leader's or a Coach would share their testimony/life story. This was a very impactful time as several young me and women were directly impacted by the testimonies as it related to difficulties they were going through in their own lives right then.
Each day included three practice sessions! The Coaches and Huddle Leaders provided excellent coaching and instructional time and the young men and women worked hard to improve their talents throughout the week.
Our Huddle leaders deserve a huge thank you. Each of these men and women were college athletes, and they took time away from work, personal workouts, and team workouts to volunteer their time to serve the ministry of FCA and the young men and women who attended camp!
Thursday night, Don gave an opportunity for the campers to respond to the Gospel message they had been receiving all week long. There was an overwhelming response as at least 13 campers surrendered their lives to Christ (4 from Detroit) and at least 40 recommitted to live boldly for Christ.
Thank you to those who helped these young men and women be able to attend camp! Through your generosity and prayer, lives were changed by Jesus Christ! Continue to pray for them as several of them have a new and exciting chapter in their lives starting this fall and several of them have found churches and are already growing in their relationship with Christ!
